Here’s our round-up of the latest Manchester United transfer news, with some big names possibly on their way to Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho’s side have not been at their best of late, but it looks like the club is ready to spend as some world class stars continue to attract their attention, with the pick of the latest stories below…
Manchester United quartet tied down to new contracts
Big news from the Daily Mirror today claims Manchester United have triggered contract extensions to keep hold of four key first-team players.
Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Ashley Young and Daley Blind all look to have been secured as they headed towards being free agents at the end of this season.
Despite not all being regulars under Mourinho in recent times, the club have certainly done well to keep hold of important squad players who could’ve walked away for nothing in the summer.
Toni Kroos potentially closer to Manchester United transfer
Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara is reportedly keen on a move to Real Madrid, which could end up benefiting Manchester United in a big way.
According to Don Balon, the Spaniard is also wanted at the Bernabeu, and his arrival could aid the Red Devils in landing rumoured target Toni Kroos.
The Germany international has not been at his best of late and looks in need of a fresh challenge, but is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world in his position on his day.
Manchester United given Thomas Lemar transfer update
Recently linked with £80million-rated Monaco winger Thomas Lemar, Manchester United have been told they may have to wait until the summer to sign him.
Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim has ruled out selling the France international in the middle of the season, in what looks a blow to the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea as well.
United could do with an attacking midfielder of Lemar’s quality, and Yahoo Sport recently mentioned they were looking at him alongside Ajax wonderkid Justin Kluivert.
Manchester United consider Alex Sandro alternatives
Manchester United are put off by Alex Sandro’s £62million asking price and seem to be weighing up moving for alternatives to the Juventus left-back.
Mourinho remains keen on signing a player in that position, but could instead move for youngsters such as Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon or Celtic starlet Kieran Tierney, according to the Daily Record.
Both are among the top young defenders in Europe at the moment and could be great long-term additions at Old Trafford if United can indeed win the race for their signatures.
Jose Mourinho fuming over Danny Rose failure
To conclude our Manchester United transfer news round-up, another left-back on Mourinho’s radar is Tottenham star Danny Rose, with the Daily Mail claiming the Manchester United boss is unhappy at being unable to sign him.
The Spurs defender would likely cost around £40million, but United’s hierarchy have apparently been unwilling to give the Portuguese that much to spend on him.
Rose has shone for Tottenham in recent times and seems a good fit for this United side, though he has also had his problems with injuries and some at the club feel Luke Shaw can do the job just as well.
