Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has responded to transfer speculation linking the club with moves for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar and Chelsea defender David Luiz.

As noted by Sky Sports, the Gunners have been linked with the pair as they may need to bolster their squad with the risk losing key players at the end of the season.

With Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Jack Wilshere among others set to become free agents in around six months time, Wenger may need to act in the transfer market to replace them, which in turn has led to the speculation regarding Luiz and Lemar.

The Brazilian ace has fallen out-of-favour at Stamford Bridge as a knee injury has kept him sidelined for weeks, while the emergence of Andreas Christensen will complicate his situation further as he has seemingly been displaced in the starting line-up even when he returns to full fitness.

As for Lemar, Sky Sports note how the Frenchman was a £92m target for Arsenal last summer, and that came off the back of a stellar campaign in which he scored 14 goals and provided 17 assists in 55 games, as Monaco won the Ligue 1 title and made it to the last four of the Champions League.

He has struggled to replicate that form this season due to injury and lack of form, but that hasn’t stopped transfer rumours suggesting Wenger is still keen on his compatriot.

However, in a blow to Arsenal fans who may well have been excited about possible signings, the veteran tactician has dismissed reports linking both players with a move to the Emirates which will surely frustrate them a lot.

“I don’t want to speak about any special name but these reports are wrong,” he said at his press conference on Tuesday ahead of the clash with Chelsea on Wednesday night, as per Sky Sports.

As mentioned above both Ozil and Sanchez will become free agents at the end of the season, and so Arsenal may have their last chance to cash in during January to avoid losing them for nothing in a matter of months.

However, it looks as though that will be difficult as Wenger added that the club haven’t received any offers for either player as of yet, which is to be expected as any interested party would surely wait for the more sensible option of snapping them up on a free in the summer, provided they don’t sign new deals.
