Chelsea defender David Luiz has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge, with reports claiming that he could be set for an exit to join Real Madrid.
The 30-year-old hasn’t featured in the last five Premier League games, with Don Balon, as re-reported by The Express, noting that he had a bust-up with Antonio Conte last month after questioning the Italian tactician.
That decision has unsurprisingly not gone down well, while injuries have hampered him too ahead of what looks to be a parting of ways next year with Conte giving the green light to the move, as per the report.
Coupled with the fact that Andreas Christensen has looked so impressive in the heart of the Chelsea defence, it has raised real concerns over Luiz’s future at the club.
In turn, it’s suggested that Madrid are eager to take him to the Bernabeu, where they will likely pair him up with stalwart Sergio Ramos.
Although question marks have always been raised over his defensive quality and concentration, the Brazilian international was a key figure in Chelsea’s Premier League title success last season after returning to west London following his stint at PSG.
Playing in a back three significantly benefitted him, offering him protection on either side as well as a licence to move forward with the ball and showcase his other qualities.
However, it looks as though Conte may well be moving in a different direction now, and so a move to Madrid may turn out to be the sensible thing for all parties if an agreement on a fee and wages can be reached in the coming months.
