Former Chelsea legend Michael Essien fears that Eden Hazard could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge for a move to Real Madrid.
A report from goal has published comments from Essien urging Chelsea to tie Hazard down to a new contract as soon as possible.
In the report, Essien stated: “He could go to Real Madrid to win the Ballon d’Or easier.”
Hazard finished 19th in this year’s Ballon d’Or ranking but it is certainly a valid point from Essien that Hazard is likely to be eyeing the number one spot in the coming seasons.
With Ronaldo and Messi both ageing and now well into their thirties it is unlikely that they will maintain their hold on world football after ten years of impressive domination.
Hazard is certainly one of the talents in world football who many will turn to to provide an answer to Ronaldo and Messi’s age. Alongside the likes of Neymar, Hazard will be tipped by many as the air to Ronaldo and Messi’s throne.
With Hazard wanting to kick on and progress his career, Essien’s fears could certainly become a reality. Perhaps, Antonio Conte needs to make an effort to listen to the former Chelsea legend’s call in asking the Blues to tie Hazard down to a new contract as the soonest possible opportunity.
