Both Arsenal and Liverpool could arguably do with reinforcements in midfield, and reported target Steven N’Zonzi may be edging closer to a move.
While Liverpool face the threat of losing Emre Can, who will see his current deal expire at the end of the season, it’s a continuing criticism of the Gunners that they lack the steeliness and solidity in midfield to really compete for major honours.
In turn, given what the Frenchman provides in terms of presence and defensive coverage along with an ability to break forward, he would make a great signing for either club.
According to COPE, as seen in the tweet below, he has travelled to London to sort out his future with an exit expected.
In addition, The Mirror explain that it’s down to a reported fallout with coach Eduardo Berizzo, but for either Arsenal, Liverpool or Everton to prise him back to England, they’ll likely have to meet the £35m release clause in his contract.
The fact that the 28-year-old is back in England with question marks over his future would suggest that he may prefer a return to the Premier League, and so it remains to be seen who swoops for him and if they can reach an agreement with Sevilla.
N’Zonzi joined the club in 2015 and has made 90 appearances for the La Liga outfit after spells with Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers. He has two caps with France, both of which came earlier this year, and so he’s certainly got the experience and pedigree to be a success at a top club.
