Chelsea may well have collected a 3-1 win over Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, but one man in particular irked supporters in the first half.
Antonio Conte’s men did well to mount a fightback after falling behind to Dwight Gayle’s early effort, with an Eden Hazard brace and an Alvaro Morata header ensuring that they secured all three points.
The win moves them level with Man Utd on 32 points in second place temporarily, ahead of United’s visit to Arsenal on Saturday evening.
Further, it cuts the gap on Man City to eight points albeit Pep Guardiola’s side also have a game in hand, with Chelsea still desperately trying to claw their way back in their bid to defend their title.
However, the focus was on Marcos Alonso early on, as the Spaniard didn’t cover himself in glory in the build-up to Newcastle’s goal.
In truth, it wasn’t just the Spaniard’s fault as there was a catalogue of errors in the lead up to the Gayle goal, but it looks as though on the basis of the tweets below that he was very much the man in the firing line.
It seems many are growing frustrated with his performances this season, but ultimately that isn’t affecting Conte’s decision making, as Alonso has been an almost ever-present this year with 21 appearances to his name as he continues to play a fundamental role for the Blues…
