Former Arsenal star Paul Merson says Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah can have no one to blame but himself for failing to make it at Chelsea earlier in his career.
The Egypt international has been a huge hit at Anfield since his summer transfer from Roma, but he never saw a great deal of playing time in a brief stint at Stamford Bridge.
Salah impressed at Basel before being snapped up by Chelsea, but he managed just 19 appearances for the Blues before being loaned out to Fiorentina and then Roma, before making the latter deal a permanent one.
Liverpool fans will be delighted to have bagged Salah later in his career as he seems to enter his peak, though Merson’s claims about the player at Chelsea seem harsh given his lack of opportunities to show what he could do.

Still, the pundit discussed the failures of both Salah and Kevin De Bruyne at Chelsea, with the latter similarly coming back to haunt his old club by shining for Manchester City this term.
Merson believes neither player did the business at Chelsea, who were right at the time to part ways with them.
‘Mo Salah will probably have something to prove in this game. He’s been outstanding and is a much better player now than he was at Chelsea,’ Merson told the Daily Star.
‘He can’t complain about how it went at Stamford Bridge, though. Neither can Kevin De Bruyne.
‘If you don’t do it at Chelsea they say goodbye, and neither of them did.’
