Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reportedly made an intriguing offer to Barcelona in his pursuit of the transfer of Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka.
The Germany international is attracting plenty of interest at the moment as he stalls on signing a new contract with his current club, with Arsenal and Barca among his suitors.
According to Don Balon, Wenger hopes he can give Arsenal an advantage in the race for Goretzka’s signature by telling Barcelona he can make it easier for them to sign Mesut Ozil if they don’t move for Goretzka.
Ozil is another player set to be a free agent in the summer as he seems no nearer to penning a new deal at the Emirates Stadium, and Don Balon claim the 29-year-old is being considered by the Catalan giants.

This could be a slick move by Wenger as he has a chance to replace one free transfer with another, and arguably strengthen in a position of more importance than the one Ozil would be leaving vacant.
While Arsenal currently look strong in attack and have decent depth in that position, the midfield pairing of Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey looking like an obvious weak area of the squad.
