AC Milan transfer news: Duo set for axe, surplus to Montella requirements

Although both Gabriel Paletta and Gustavo Gomez played important roles for AC Milan last season, it doesn’t look as though they’ll be staying much longer at the San Siro.

Vincenzo Montella already had Alessio Romagnoli and Cristian Zapata at his disposal following on from last year along with Paletta and Gomez, but the Rossoneri opted to bolster their backline options further with the additions of Mateo Musacchio and Leonardo Bonucci this past summer.

The new faces have pushed their way to the top of the pecking order and have featured regularly so far this season, leaving Paletta and Gomez on the sidelines waiting for an opportunity.

It’s unlikely that one will come for either though, as even with Milan juggling domestic commitments with the Europa League, they still haven’t been able to get a look in as Montella has shown his preference for Bonucci, Musacchio, Romagnoli and Zapata to share out the workload in a back three.

As a result, exits seem to make sense for both individuals, and according to Calciomercato, Paletta is attracting interest from Argentina and Turkey with a view of leaving in January, while it’s a similar story for Gomez who is believed to be of interest to Boca Juniors as well as clubs in Turkey.

While it will be a disappointment to see both to leave, it ultimately makes sense for all concerned as Milan have far too many options in that department while Paletta, and particularly Gomez given his age, will want to prioritise playing regular football.
