After another disappointing setback at the weekend, it seems as though the January transfer window can’t come soon enough for AC Milan.
The Rossoneri are languishing in eighth place in the Serie A table after 11 games, and have now fallen 10 points adrift of the top four in the race to qualify for the Champions League, which could get worse depending on Inter’s result at Verona on Monday night.

After signing 11 new players this past summer, adding more new faces to the group probably isn’t the right answer, but speculation suggests that they’re still scouring the market for reinforcements.
However, some of their business could be complicated as according to Sport, as per Calciomercato, they’re keen on promising young defender Dayot Upamecano, who was also targeted by Barcelona prior to his move to Leipzig, as added by the Spanish publication.
The 19-year-old has made quite the impression having joined RB Leipzig in January, as he’s solidifying his place in their starting line-up so far this season.
On one hand, it’s a potentially quality signing for the long-term future, but on the other when it comes to Milan, having added Leonardo Bonucci and Mateo Musacchio to the ranks over the summer, it’s questionable as to whether they need to invest in another defender so soon after.
Meanwhile, Milan are also being linked with two talented Serie A youngsters in Jakub Jankto and Nicolo Barella, but their respective price-tags may be putting the Italian giants off making a bid.
Calciomercato report that Jankto is valued at around €25m plus bonuses, while the same publication suggest that Barella will command a fee of €20m.
In turn, that’s a lot of money for two players who haven’t yet proven that they can deliver at the highest level, and so it’s debatable as to whether Milan should follow up their interest at this stage.
With the way the season has started for Vincenzo Montella and his squad, they arguably need more experience and players capable of making an immediate impact rather than those with an eye on the future and long-term development.
