AC Milan haven’t had the start to the season that they wanted, but after a busy summer in the transfer market, their work could continue in January.
After bringing in 11 new players, expectations were sky-high at the San Siro with Vincenzo Montella tasked with building on their qualification for the Europa League last season.
However, nine games into the Serie A campaign, Milan sit in 11th place in the table and are already nine points adrift of the top four in the race to qualify for the Champions League.
In turn, it remains to be seen whether or not further purchases are made to strengthen the squad to give themselves the best possible chance of bridging the gap, but Calciomercato claim that Gustavo Gomez could be bidding farewell to the Rossoneri in the new year.
As per Goal, the Paraguayan international joined Milan for €7m last year, but he’s had a frustrating spell in Italy as he hasn’t been able to establish himself in the line-up. The 24-year-old made just 18 appearances last season, while he has yet to feature this year.
With Leonardo Bonucci and Mateo Musacchio joining the club this past summer, he’s only fallen further down the pecking order and it seems as though an exit is the most sensible solution for all parties.
Meanwhile, one player who is increasingly unlikely to move to Milan is Udinese ace Jakub Jankto, with Calciomercato reporting that interest in him has tailed off due to his price-tag and competition from England.
The weaknesses in this Milan squad are evident, as they are short of wingers and need an alternative to Franck Kessie as there isn’t another player in the team that can do the same job as effectively as him in terms of offering energy, combativeness and powerful runs forward.
In turn, the reported interest in Jankto is understandable, but it seems as though it won’t turn into something more serious which could force Milan to look elsewhere to address their problems.
