Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Celtic in their Champions League group stage clash this evening. The game meant little for either side, with City already guaranteed to progress as runners up and Celtic being eliminated from the competition prior to tonight’s game.
It was Celtic who took the lead through City loanee Patrick Roberts. The youngster weaved his way into the penalty area before firing past Willy Cabellero. It will undoubtedly been a strange experience scoring against his parent club.
City levelled through Kelechi Iheanacho. His classy finish will have eased the fears of any City fans who may have thought they would be left short upfront with Sergio Aguero’s suspension.
It had all the makings of a dead-rubber game, with neither side appearing particularly interested in going for the victory. The hard-work was already done for City, and their name will be in the draw for the next round.
Man City player ratings: Caballero 5, Maffeo 5, Sagna 6, Adarabioyo 5, Clichy 6, Zabaleta 7, Fernando 6, Nolito 4, Gundogan 5, Sane 4, Iheanacho 8
Man of the match – Kelechi Iheanacho: In a game in which moments of quality were lacking, Iheanacho’s ultimately proved vital. His superb near-post finish saved City from back-to-back defeats at the Etihad.
