Man United are reportedly ready to step up their interest in Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg, a player labelled the ‘next Zlatan Ibrahimovic’.
According to The Mirror, Jose Mourinho sent head of scouting Marcel Bout to watch the 19-year-old in action, and he lived up to the billing by scoring in his side’s 3-2 win over Celta Vigo in the Europa League.
Having made 19 appearances in all competitions so far this season, Dolberg has scored eight goals and provided three assists for his side as he continues to impress.
However, it appears as though he may be leaving the Eredivisie sooner than expected with United monitoring his progress and looking to bolster their forward line, as noted in the report with comparisons being made with Ibrahimovic and their similar styles of play.
It’s questionable as to whether United need a more experienced and prolific striker to help them with their short-term objectives given their current struggles and those of Ibrahimovic, but Dolberg certainly looks like a great talent for the future.
United have struggled so far this season as they sit in eighth place in the Premier League after 10 games, with just 13 goals scored in that run of games.
That’s significantly less than their rivals at the top of the standings, and so Mourinho may well be considering his options in the January transfer window and next summer.
