Manchester United have suffered a blow in their quest to sign the West Ham youngster Reece Oxford, according to The Sun.

Per-the-source, United boss Jose Mourinho keen to sign the defensive midfielder. The report says that Oxford is unhappy with the lack of first team appearances.

However, the Sun goes onto state that West Ham boss Slaven Bilic has intervened to resolve the issue and wants to personally ensure Oxford puts pen-to-paper on a new deal.

The 17-year-old has found first team appearances few and far between since making his debut against Arsenal last season. Oxford – who has 18 months remaining on his current deal – was left out of the Hammers team which drew 1-1 with Middlesborough on Saturday.

Bilic has left Oxford out of the team ever since the shock Europa League defeat against Astra Giurgiu in August.

West Ham are without a win in their last five Premier League games and take on Crystal Palace on October 15.
