An alleged Antonio Valencia sex scandal was splashed across the front page of The Sun on Sunday earlier this month as the Manchester United star was accused of cheating on his wife.
The headline ‘Married Man United star Antonio Valencia set up secret hotel tryst with busty nurse he wooed on Instagram – just hours after team lost £660m match‘ was used in the paper’s online edition.
Valencia’s marriage to Zoila Meneses (pictured above) is seemingly what makes this story scandalous.
However, the 31-year-old right-back/winger last night used Instagram to claim that he and his partner, with whom he has a 10-year-old daughter, are no longer in a relationship.
We are not Facebook friends with Antonio, but we assume his status is “It’s complicated”.
He wrote: “In relation to recent news concerning my personal life, it is important to clarify that me current civil status is single. Over the past months I have not had any formal relationship.
“I am sorry if recent personal events have generated confusion or distress. I kindly request the media not to interfere in our personal and family life.
“As usual, my efforts are focused on my professional career and on my daughter.”
If what Valencia says is true, he arguably deserves an apology from The Sun, although we all know how likely that is.
The “busty nurse” at the heart of The Sun’s story is Sophie Vagsaeter (seen below).
