Liverpool enter race for £15m striker as Premier League rivals now face stiff competition

Liverpool have reportedly joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign River Plate striker Lucas Alario, who has a £15.2m release clause in his contract.

The 23-year-old has recently admitted that he is keen on a move to Europe, and with a whole host of clubs monitoring his future, it remains to be seen which option he chooses.

According to The Sun, Liverpool have already had an £8.5m bid rejected by River Plate, but will return with an improved offer to rival Spurs who have also shown an interest in the past.

Elsewhere, both Torino and Inter are also said to be keen on the striker, and so Alario will certainly have options when he sits down and discusses his future in the coming months.

The Argentine forward is seen as an ideal player to fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system and style of play though, as his energetic efforts off the ball will suit the high-pressing game of the Reds, while he also boasts good movement and an ability to find the back of the net.

Alario has scored 14 goals in 31 league appearances in total, while he has five goals in 11 outings in the Copa Libertadores as he has proven he has the ability to make an impact.

Whether he gets his move to Europe this year remains to be seen, but Liverpool are seemingly back in the hunt and will hope to bolster their attacking options.

Klopp can already boast a highly-talented group of forwards, and so some may well question the need for another with Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi already in place to play up front.
