Aston Villa all set to announce sixth summer signing but mystery over Roberto Di Matteo’s latest acquisition

Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has hinted that the club are on the verge of announcing their latest signing, with visa paperwork holding up the move.

Roberto Di Matteo has already signed five new players this summer, with Pierluigi Gollini, Tommy Elphick, James Chester, Aaron Tshibola and Ross McCormack joining the push for Premier League football next season.

However, the Villa boss is evidently far from finished in the summer transfer market, as another new signing is expected to be announced as early as Tuesday night.

Xia, unsurprisingly, has taken to Twitter to respond to questions from supporters about their latest addition, and has promised that he will be announced shortly as visa approval continues to delay the announcement.

In turn, it has led to speculation over the identity of the new man, as ultimately it comes down to one of two midfielders linked with the club.

Many expect it to be Crystal Palace veteran Mile Jedinak, as Sky Sports reported earlier this week that Xia had all-but confirmed that the Australian international is set to become a Villa player.

That would make sense in this case as the 32-year-old would need to sort out the required paperwork for changing employer, although the Daily Star has suggested that Villa are close to completing the signing of Bologna midfielder Amadou Diawara.

It’s still fair to say that Jedinak is the most likely man to arrive at Villa Park this week, but time will tell as to who will be adding some much needed steel and leadership to Di Matteo’s midfield.
