Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set for disappointment in their pursuit of Georges-Kevin Nkoudou after negotiations over an £11m move broke down.
The Marseille star has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane for some time, and it appeared as though progress was being made over a deal.
According to The Guardian, Clinton Njie had received a work permit to move in the opposite direction on a season-long loan, but the Ligue 1 outfit are now said to be unhappy with the structure of the payment schedule.
The report adds that Nkoudou completed his medical three weeks ago and has been in London since, while Njie had believed that his move to France was set for completion, only to see a new obstacle emerge and leave both in limbo over their respective futures.
Spurs are said to be ready to walk away from the deal, and that will certainly come as a major disappointment for all concerned as Mauricio Pochettino continues to look for ways in which he can strengthen his squad.
It’s claimed that the Premier League side have alternatives in mind, but that will matter little to either Nkoudou or Njie, who had believed that they were moving on this summer.
Njie made 14 appearances in all competitions for Spurs last season, but failed to find the target on a single occasion, leading Pochettino to scour the market this summer in order to add more goalscoring threat to his team.
Having lessened the load on Harry Kane’s shoulders with the signing of Vincent Janssen, it doesn’t appear as though the Argentine will be calling on Nkoudou any time soon.
