Valencia completed the signing of Barcelona defender Martin Montoya on Monday, bringing the right-back to the Mestalla on a four-year deal.
As confirmed on the club’s official Twitter handle, the 25-year-old has signed on with Los Che until 2020, and will ostensibly replace Antonio Barragan, who moved to Middlesbrough earlier in the window.
Montoya becomes the latest La Masia product to leave Catalonia, having spent his entire career at Barca to date and being a mainstay in Spain’s youth teams.
Indeed, the versatile stopper has represented La Roja from every age group from U-17 to U-21, but is yet to make the great at senior level, despite having represented the Catalonia national side.
He follows the likes of Marc Bartra, Jean Marie Dongou, Marc Muniesa and Thiago Alcantara, all former La Masia starlets, who opted for pastures new after failing to make the grade at Barca or—in the case of Thiago—deciding that he’d be better served pursuing his future elsewhere.
