New Liverpool signing Loris Karius will miss the start of the Premier League season.
According to BBC Sport, the 23-year-old no.1 has been ruled out for eight to 10 weeks with a broken hand – an injury which is naturally pretty serious for a goalkeeper.
Karius damaged the contents of his gloves in this week’s 1-0 friendly defeat to Chelsea in California.
This injury almost certainly means that Danish stopper Simon Mignolet will begin the season between the sticks for Liverpool, who open their campaign with a trip to Arsenal on August 14.
However, should Mignolet pick up a knock before Karius is fit again, the Reds could be forced to give some Premier League game time to 39-year-old Alex Manninger.

Jurgen Klopp’s recent decision to sign former Arsenal keeper Manninger on a free transfer seemed a bit weird, but, then again, how important is a third-choice keeper anyway, right?
Slightly more important when the no.1 is injured and the no.2 is Mignolet!
Liverpool must now be praying Mignolet stays injury-free.
Desperate times.
