Ilkay Gundogan

Manchester City’s summer signing Ilkay Gundogan has been likened to the former Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta and their former captain Xavi Hernandez.

The Bayern Munich star Javi Martinez told Goal that he see’s similarities between the Barcelona legends and Gundogan.

Gundogan made his move to join Pep Guardiola at Man City from Borussia Dorrtmund last month for £20 million.

“I think Germany have a lot of good players. The most similar player to Xavi and Iniesta is Gundogan, but he has been injured,” Martinez told Goal.

“Germany also have many good young players; Joshua Kimmich, who had an amazing Euros, or Leroy Sane.

Gundogan has missed out on City’s pre-season tour of China after following a knee injury he suffered while still at Borussia Dortmund. The Germany international is expected to miss the opening weeks of the upcoming Premier League season.

The 25-year-old recently  uploaded an image to social media along with the following caption, “A cozy bed and some smooth songs are the perfect mix for Sunday chillout mood.”
