Tottenham Hotspur were made to pay for some poor defending in the first half of their International Champions Cup encounter with Juventus on Tuesday.
Paulo Dyabala opened the scoring for the Serie A giants, with Massimiliano Allegri opting to go with a strong starting line-up that included new summer signings Miralem Pjanic and Medhi Benatia.
However, the first goal was a gift after some sloppy defending allowed the Bianconeri to get in, and Dybala took care of the rest with a cool finish.
It wasn’t long before Juve were two goals to the good as Benatia headed home to score his first goal for his new club, albeit in a non-competitive outing.
Nevertheless, the former Bayern Munich defender would have enjoyed what was a solid performance, as the Bianconeri certainly looked formidable even without some of their key individuals on show.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men were able to halve their deficit after the break with Erik Lamela finding the target, but they couldn’t find a second to force the game beyond normal time.
The Argentine playmaker was one of the better performers for Spurs, while summer signing Victor Wanyama will have been pleased with his contribution in a solid 90-minute display.
Neither coach will take too much away from the game given it’s still just pre-season, as ultimately it’s all working towards being in top condition for when their respective league campaigns get underway.
Nevertheless, it was certainly another promising outing for Juve as they prepare their assault for a sixth consecutive Scudetto.
