One of Jose Mourinho’s first acts as Manchester United manager was to secure a new contract for Michael Carrick.
The 34-year-old has been a senior figure at Old Trafford for a decade, and it seems poised to stay that way under Mourinho.
Wayne Rooney uploaded a team photo, taken as United’s boarded for their pre-season tour to China, to Instagram which offers a clue.
Veteran midfielder Carrick is front and centre alongside the Special One, captain Rooney and Mourinho’s assistant Rui Faria.
Carrick has made 421 appearances in his 10 years at Old Trafford, and was one of United’s vice-captains in Louis van Gaal’s tenure.
Nevertheless, his contract had been allowed to wind down before Mourinho’s arrival. But it appears as though Jose has big plans for Carrick.
