After making their fifth signing of 2016, Liverpool today revealed that this season’s Ragnar Klavan squad number will be no.17.
The last player to wear no.17 for Liverpool was French defender Mamadou Sakho, who was recently promoted to no.3.
However, many Reds fans will remember that no.17 was also the number worn by club legend Steven Gerrard between 2000 and 2004.
Gerrard started his Liverpool career as the club’s no.28 and – of course – wore no.8 for the final decade of his illustrious Reds career.
Klavan joins Liverpool from Augsburg in Germany.
The 30-year-old centre-back made 125 Bundesliga appearances for Augsburg.
He has 112 senior international caps for Estonia to his name and his is currently the captain of his country.
