Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly looking to sign a defender this summer, with the Gunners linked with Jason Denayer and Matthias Ginter.
Wenger will be looking at ways to further strengthen his squad, with Granit Xhaka the only signing made by the Premier League giants thus far.
However, with various departments of his squad still requiring more depth and quality, the French tactician is set to remain active between now and the end of the window.
According to The Sun, Wenger has been tracking both Denayer and Ginter for the last couple of years, and is hopeful of landing one of them this summer, with the newspaper noting that they are likely to cost between £10-12m each.
Denayer may well be available if City are able to prise Leonardo Bonucci away from Juventus, while the 21-year-old is reportedly already keen on leaving in order to secure first-team football as noted in the report.
The Belgian international didn’t enjoy the best of European Championships this summer, but he will hope a move to a big club who offer him a chance of regular football after two loan spells in the last two years can be beneficial to his career.
Meanwhile, Ginter is also said to have been on Wenger’s radar for some time, with the versatile German defender reportedly available for transfer from Borussia Dortmund this summer, as noted by The Sun.
Having only joined the German giants in 2014, he has gone on to make 35 appearances for the club and has scored three goals.
Nevertheless, Arsenal are keen to take him to the Emirates ahead of the upcoming campaign, with Wenger looking to bolster his defensive options.
Laurent Koscielny will return late to pre-season training after guiding France to the Euro 2016 final, leaving Per Mertesacker and Gabriel as the only two senior central defenders in the squad.
In turn, as well as looking to bring in another striker, Wenger is certainly right to be considering a swoop for another defender and he seemingly has his preferred targets in mind.
