Arsenal scout recommends Wenger writes “blank cheque” for best midfielder in Serie A

Jorginho's fine form for Napoli has seen him become a transfer target for Arsenal

Italian-based Arsenal scout Neil Banfield has said that he would recommend Arsene Wenger write a blank cheque to sign Napoli midfielder Jorginho.

In an interview on Italian radio, a very excited Banfield waxed lyrical about the 24-year-old Italian, describing watching him as a “pleasure for the eyes.

He also suggested that Jorginho is the best midfielder currently in Serie A – a division which boasts the likes of Paul Pogba, Miralem Pjanic and Radja Nainggolan.

“There is a footballer in Naples (for whom I) would sign a blank check,” Banfield told Gonfialarete. “This football player Jorginho – the strongest midfielder that there is at this time in Serie A.

“Watching him play is a pleasure for the eyes, it makes me mad.”

It is strange that, considering Banfield rates Jorginho so highly, that Arsenal declined to make a move for him this summer and instead signed Granit Xhaka.

Seemingly there is somebody’s opinion at the Emirates Stadium that Wenger trusts more than Banfield, a 54-year-old who has been part of the Frenchman’s staff since 2012.

Jorginho has been capped twice by Italy, making his debut earlier this year, and has made 90 appearances for Napoli since his transfer from Verona in 2014.
