Euro 2016 is in mourning because Cristiano Ronaldo has left the party.
Portugal reluctantly subbed off their talisman after 25 minutes of Sunday’s final against France.
Ronaldo departure, via stretcher, came a quarter of an hour after France midfielder Dimitri Payet had clattered his knee.
Ronaldo battled on for 15 minutes after being crocked by Payet, but the Real Madrid man never recovered.
Although there appeared to be no malice from Payet, the West Ham United star certainly did plenty of damage.
That damage could be a significant factor in deciding who wins the tournament.
After all, Ronaldo was the best player on the pitch, in terms of reputation at least.
Skipper Ronaldo passed the captain’s armband to former Manchester United teammate Nani before he disappeared down the tunnel.
