Andy King defied the odds when he helped Leicester City clinch the Premier League title this year and the midfielder believes Wales can pull off a similar achievement.
The 27-year-old is part of the Wales squad which defeated Belgium last week to qualify to the semi finals. Chris Colman’s side will take on Portugal who are spearheaded by the Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Wales’ progress has come as a surprise seeing that they were ranked as low 112th in the world in 2010 and is the the first time they have qualified to a major competition since 1958.
King was also part of Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester City which pulled off a miraculous triumph to be crowned champions.
“I said it in Portugal on our training camp and everyone kind of laughed at me,” said King, who has 35 caps,” King told the Mirror.
“Everyone kind of chuckled and thought: ‘yeah OK’. But this has the same sort of feeling.
“There are a lot of similarities – we have good players, a good squad and a real togetherness and team bond.
“It was an unbelievable feeling and a great performance against Belgium. There are just two games to go now so why not?”
King may be called up to the starting line-up when Wales take on Portugal following the suspension of Aaron Ramsey. The Arsenal midfielder is ruled out of the semi finals after picking up a second booking.
