Fans aren’t the only ones clamoring for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to take over the England manager job from Roy Hodgson – some of the Three Lions’ players themselves seem to believe he’s the right man for the job too.
According to The Sun, the England players got together in Nice after their loss to Iceland and agreed that Wenger would be the right man to serve as the team’s new manager. The players believe that Wenger has the right combination of stature and standing in the game of football to take on the task of managing the team.
Per the source, FA executive Martin Glenn plans to speak with the senior players about their thoughts on who the next manager should be – a potential boon for Wenger’s chances if the reports are true.
Wenger has managed Arsenal since 1996. In that timespan he has led the Gunners to three Premier League titles, six FA Cup titles, and a 57.2% winning percentage. The club have finished no worse than fourth in any of his 20 seasons at the helm.
