Christian Benteke is reportedly warming to the idea of joining Crystal Palace after acknowledging that he has little chance of a successful future at Liverpool.
The Belgian striker endured a tough debut season at Anfield, scoring 10 goals in 42 games and finding himself out of favour following the appointment of Jurgen Klopp.
And The Mirror reports that he is now ready to consider his future after seeing Sadio Mane arrive from Southampton to further limit his likely first-team opportunities.
Palace are ready to spend big this summer to solve their striker problems – their six recognised forwards combined for a total of nine Premier League goals last season.
According to Sky Sports, they lodged a bid of £31.5m for Marseille hitman Michy Batshuayi this week, but the Benteke’s international teammate is poised to join Chelsea.
And now Alan Pardew wants to point his ambition in the direction of Benteke, who bagged 49 times in 101 appearances for Aston Villa before his difficult Reds spell.
The Mirror understands that the 25-year-old is desperate to play regularly again, and is willing to drop down the Premier League hierarchy in order to get that chance.
But the same source adds that Palace would be able to offer Benteke his £140,000-per-week Liverpool wages as well as the glamorous London lifestyle, so it isn’t all bad!
