Chelsea are reportedly looking to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez this summer, with Asmir Begovic heading for the exit door.
The Spaniard moved to the San Siro two years ago from Real Madrid, and after initially establishing himself as the number one choice between the posts, he lost his place in the starting line-up.
A string of errors in the early part of last season saw then boss Sinisa Mihajlovic replace him with youngster Gianluigi Donnarumma, and the Italian has since made the position his own and is likely to continue to do so moving forward.
In turn, Milan are likely to be willing to listen to offers for Lopez, with Sky Sport Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that Chelsea are keen on signing him.
The report adds that Begovic will likely leave Stamford Bridge this summer, which in turn leaves Antonio Conte needing a second option to Thibaut Courtois.
Whether or not Lopez would be content with another back-up role remains to be seen, but the 34-year-old would undoubtedly bring plenty of experience and knowledge to the Chelsea squad if he does indeed complete a move to west London.
It is added that Chelsea have offered him a three-year contract, although that is off-set by the fact that they are likely to not have to spend too much on a transfer fee given Milan are looking to reshuffle their pack and shed some wages ahead of Vincenzo Montella’s first season in charge at the club.
