The England FA may be looking at the top Premier League managers as candidates for the England manager position, but if the search brings them to Arsene Wenger’s front door they may be forced to turn elsewhere.
According to The Sun, the Arsenal brass believe that Wenger will stay on as manager of the club despite potential overtures from the FA for the vacant Three Lions manager role. Per the report the FA believe that Wenger is their ideal candidate for the job.
Wenger has managed Arsenal for twenty years and has won the Premier League title on three occasions: 1998, 2002 and 2004. The 67-year-old Wenger is under contract with the Gunners for one more year and has maintained that he will not walk out on a contract.
The England manager role was vacated after Roy Hodgson resigned following a devastating 2-1 defeat to Iceland in the Euro 2016 knockout round.
In around nine weeks time, England must return to international football for 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, starting with Slovakia.
