England legend Gary Lineker calls Iceland loss ‘worst defeat in our history’

Gary Lineker publicly supported "the gay footballer"

The England national team are being taken to task on social media over their stunningly-bad performance against Iceland in the even more stunning 2-1 loss to the Euro newcomers.

Among the many former England players disgusted with the performance is former Three Lions striker Gary Lineker, who was not afraid to dub the loss ‘the worst defeat in our history’ on Twitter.

During the sixth minute of the game, Wayne Rooney successfully converted a penalty kick to give England a 1-0 lead, but Ragnar Sigurdsson equalized for Iceland just 34 seconds later.

In the 19th minute, Kolbeinn Sigthorsson’s took a shot from the edge of the penalty area that slipped through Joe Hart’s hand and rolled into the goal for a go-ahead Iceland score.

England were unable to score again – even though they had as many as five strikers on the pitch at one point – and the score of 2-1 for Iceland stood, eliminating England from Euro 2016.

Lineker was a member of the 1986 England team that lost to Argentina in the infamous ‘Hand of God’ game in the FIFA World Cup. But even that loss which Lineker saw up close and personal apparently did not match his outrage at the performance against Iceland.
