Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel always seems to be on the verge of giving away a penalty.
Skrtel was incredibly fortunate not to concede a spot kick in Slovakia’s 2-1 defeat to Wales on the first Saturday of Euro 2016, but the 31-year-old’s luck finally ran out in Lille this afternoon.
Already 1-0 down to a Jerome Boateng stunner, Slovakia looked in big trouble when Skrtel pushed Mario Gomez to the ground inside the opening 15 minutes against Germany.
Skrtel was shown a yellow card, which will see if miss the quarter-final (yeah, right), but Slovakia were spared from going 2-0 down as Matus Kozacik made an excellent save to deny Mesut Ozil from 12 yards.
Ozil became the second Arsenal player to miss a penalty in just over 24 hours, after new Gunners signing Granit Xhaka blazed over in Switzerland 5-4 shootout defeat to Poland in Saint-Etienne yesterday.
