World champions Germany lead 1-0 at half time in their opening game of Euro 2016.
A 19th-minute header from defender Shkodran Mustafi, following a brilliant Toni Kroos cross, fired the tournament favourites ahead.
.@esmuellert_ draws enough attention for @MustafiOfficial to find the space for the header #Germany up 1-0 #EURO2016 https://t.co/MKBtJm9Wbl

Mustafi was only playing due to injuries to two of his fellow centre-backs.
The dead-ball delivery from Kross was superb, but Ukraine felt that the decision to award the free-kick had been harsh.
Ukraine came within centimetres of levelling, but an incredible goal-line clearance by Jerome Boateng prevented Yevhen Konoplyanka’s header hitting the net.

The underdogs did have the ball in the net moments before half time, but it was correctly ruled offside.
