Jamie Vardy wants to join Arsenal and his arrival isn’t an issue for Olivier Giroud who has welcomed the signing of the Leicester City striker.
As reported by Sky Sports, Arsenal are expected to negotiate personal terms with the 29-year-old after triggering the release clause in his contract with a £20m bid.
Although there has been no official confirmation from either party regarding the bid or ongoing talks, Giroud has seemingly let the cat out the bag with his admission that he has been told by the Gunners that Vardy wants to join them ahead of next season.
“I have been told that Jamie wants to join us and it’s very good news for us. I think we can be complimentary and that’s all I can say,” Giroud told Sky Sports News HQ.
“He’s a fantastic player, so it’s good news for us.”
The French international insisted that he welcomes additional competition as ultimately anything that helps the club move closer to winning the Premier League title should be embraced, even if that would put his position in the starting line-up at risk.
Given Vardy tallied 24 goals last year and helped Leicester win the title, his addition would undoubtedly be a major boost for the Gunners who were forced to settle for a second-placed finish despite being tipped to end their long wait for a league title with many of their usual rivals struggling.
However, coupled with the signing of Granit Xhaka last month, it appears as though Arsene Wenger is ready to respond by making a statement and spending this summer in order to build a title-winning side, with Vardy now expected to complete a deal to join the north London outfit sooner rather than later.
