Inter have confirmed the signing of Fenerbahce left-back Caner Erkin, leaving Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp disappointed.
The Turkish international has been included in Fatih Terim’s 23-man squad for Euro 2016 this summer, but has received a welcome boost ahead of the tournament having sorted out his club future.
Erkin has put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal with the Serie A outfit, and he will join them on a free transfer when his current deal with Fenerbahce expires at the end of this month.
With eight assists and one goal from his 27 appearances last season, Erkin attracted the attention of some top clubs around Europe, including Liverpool who had been strongly linked with making a move, as noted by The Express last month.
Klopp has already been busy bolstering his squad this summer with the signings of Joel Matip, Marko Grujic and Loris Karius, but if the speculation is true and he had earmarked Erkin as a target, then he’ll be disappointed to see the left-back choose a move to Italy instead.
Nevertheless, that will arguably do little to disrupt their momentum in the summer transfer window, with the Premier League giants looking to strengthen in various departments ahead of what will be Klopp’s first full season in charge at Anfield.
As for Inter, they will have their own ambitious plans ahead of next season, and Roberto Mancini will naturally be delighted to acquire an individual that he will believe can solve their problems at left-back for the foreseeable future.
