Mario Gotze may be back at Bayern Munich on paper, but in his own mind he still has a lot of uncertainty and perhaps some doubts as to what the future really holds for him with the German giants and their new regime.
In an interview with FourFourTwo [per Squawka], Gotze refused to comment on his future with Bayern Munich after pledging to return – in spite of an alleged discussion with incoming manager Carlo Ancelotti in which the Italian boss said he’d be better off finding a different team. Liverpool were interested in reuniting Gotze with manager Jurgen Klopp.
“I think enough was written and done,” Gotze said. “I’ve said everything about this. Now I’m at the Euros and don’t want to say anything about this.”
Gotze was one of Jurgen Klopp’s biggest stars when he was manager of Borussia Dortmund. He was a vital part of the Dortmund’s ill-fated trip to the 2013 Champions League Final. Gotze made a €37 million move to Bayern Munich later that summer but was gradually eased out of the team under manager Pep Guardiola.
In the 2015-16 season under Guardiola, Gotze made just 14 league appearances and 21 total appearances – his fewest in both categories since his 2009-10 debut for Dortmund. He also scored just three goals with six all competitions -also his lowest since his debut.
