Well that was… unexpected. The New York Red Bulls didn’t just beat NYC FC in the New York Derby, they absolutely annihilated them.
In scoring the equivalent of an NFL touchdown, the Red Bulls dropped seven goals on the Yankee Stadium outfit – an absolutely incredible sum, especially given the New Jersey-based outfit’s recent struggles in getting the ball in the net.
Red Bulls midfielder and captain Dax McCarty got things started early, scoring less than five minutes into the game with a header off a Sacha Kljestan corner.

The next 35 minutes would be uneventful, but then Bradley Wright-Phillips got his say, first with a header of his own off a beautiful Mike Grella pass to double the lead.
Before the half, Bradley would net again, scoring an incredible bicycle kick off an airball off the dome of Aurelien Colin to make it 3-0.
It only got worse for NYC FC in the second half as Dax McCarty added a 4th goal just minutes after the break off another corner kick.
Content with his team’s lead, Red Bulls manager Jesse Marsch began subbing off his players at the 54′ mark. But every one of his subs would net in this game – and Alex Muyl was no exception, scoring his first-ever MLS goal less than two minutes after replacing Mike Grella to make it 5-0
Ten minutes later Gonzalo Veron was sent in to replace Bradley, and the Argentine winger scored the Red Bulls’ sixth of the game.
Just five minutes later, the seventh and final goal would be scored by Kljestan’s replacement Gideon Baah – who netted his first-ever MLS goal as well.
A game like this was an absolute nightmare for NYC FC, but for the reigning Supporters’ Shield Champion Red Bulls, it was a game they may never forget. And the three points that sent them to 3rd in the Eastern Conference will certainly help too.
