Man City’s Capital One Cup victory over Liverpool was thanks in large part to some penalty-kick heroics by veteran goalkeeper Willy Caballero. However, the Argentine stopper is expected to leave the team at the end of the season and third-stringer Richard Wright might follow suit. As a result, the Citizens have moved quickly on getting an extra goalkeeper and appear close to a deal for their man.
According to the Daily Mail [per HITC], Man City are closing in on a deal for Deportivo Maldonado goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli and are moving forward with their bid ahead of interest from Barcelona and Valencia.
The 24-year-old Rulli has spent his last two seasons on loan to Real Sociedad, making 58 appearances for the club and recorded a clean sheet against Barcelona in a 1-0 win. The team allowed just 48 goals this season – seventh fewest despite their ninth-place finish on the table.
Joe Hart had another strong season for the Citizens, recording 15 clean sheets this past season, and is expected to retain his starting job.
