Liverpool’s disappointing performance in the second half of the Europa League Final was more than the end of the team’s Champions League ambitions, it may have been the end for a multitude of Reds players fighting for their jobs. Among the many players who may have seen their futures at Anfield go to an abrupt on Wednesday was defender Kolo Toure, who admitted he is unsure what happens next after the bitter end to the season.
“I don’t know (about my future) to be honest,” Toure told the Liverpool Echo. “We will see what will happen and you will have to ask that question to the manager. Of course I want to stay.
“It’s a great club to play in, but the manager has his plan and any decision I will respect. He is a top manager and he knows what he is doing.I am just enjoying my time in this club – a fantastic club and fantastic supporters.”
Toure was given the start in the ill-fated Europa League Final, and performed well for the most part, but the team fell apart in the second half, giving up a 1-0 lead and conceding three goals to Sevilla to lose the title and their last shot at the Champions League.
The 35-year-old Toure saw extended action in the final stretch of the season after Mamadou Sakho was suspended for an anti-doping violation. His contract is set to expire this summer.
