Liverpool legend tells Klopp to ‘sign a f**king left back’ after Moreno disaster

Jamie Carragher was taught a thing or two about defending deep

Alberto Moreno was absolutely shocking during Liverpool’s 3-1 loss against Sevilla in the Europa League final this past Wednesday evening, making a number of mistakes and playing a major part in the goals conceded. Jamie Carragher is clearly furious with the performance of the Spaniard, begging Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool transfer committee to sign a new left-back this summer.

He didn’t exactly ask nicely though, with his tweet full of profanity. He demanded that the club “sign a f**king left back” this summer, with Moreno just not cutting it at the moment.

The left-back’s poor positioning and decision making was evident all game, but it was Kevin Gameiro’s equaliser where he really showed his shortcomings. His initial headed clearance was a bizarre one, giving away the ball in a dangerous area. It fell to Mariano who made a powerful run forward, nutmegging Moreno and putting a great ball into the box. Gameiro tapped home, and Moreno was left with his head in his hands.

There are mixed feelings with regard to Moreno where Liverpool fans are concerned, with his inconsistent performances infuriating many. He’s shown glimpses of real quality which have endeared the fans to him, but if he can’t impress on a more regular basis then he’ll struggle to hold down a starting spot.

It seems very possible that Carragher will get his wish and Klopp will bring a new left-back to the club this summer, so Moreno may already have messed up his last chance to impress.
