Manchester United‘s hopes of bringing Edinson Cavani to Old Trafford this summer have been dented by news that Atletico Madrid are also keen on the frontman.
According to AS, Diego Simeone is lining up some ambitious transfer moves during the offseason, regardless of whether the Rojiblancos win the Champions League final on May 28.
Atleti’s continental reputation has been boosted in recent seasons following the excellent stewardship of Simeone and their second UCL final appearance in three season.
As such, the coach is setting his sights on Paris Saint-Germain forward Cavani, who won the French title this season after scoring 19 goals in 32 Ligue 1 outings.
The Spanish giants may face competition for the Uruguay international, with United understood to be keen on the attacker.
However, recent rumours that the Red Devils are keen on imminent free agent Zlatan Ibrahimovic mean that Atleti may have a clear run on Cavani.

As well as the South American frontman, AS also report that Atleti are keen on Lazio wideman Antonio Candreva, who—at 29—may be tempted by the prospect of a final big move in his career.
