Arsenal are reportedly offering €43m to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, but it still falls short of the €45m valuation of the player.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to the Emirates for months, and it is widely acknowledged that he is likely to be Arsene Wenger’s first significant piece of business this summer.
While his attention will soon focus on Euro 2016 with the Swiss national team, he can look back on an impressive campaign in the Bundesliga that ultimately attracted the attention of the Gunners.
Xhaka has told Bild that there are “daily conversations” taking place, and that he expects a decision on his future to be made before the start of the European Championship.
Having added that he essentially believes that his time at Monchengladbach has come to an end, it remains to be seen if he gets his desired move to the Premier League.
Bild add that the fee to take him away from the German outfit is €45m, but as of yet, Arsenal are still offering €43m.
Whether or not the Gunners budge first remains to be seen, but it is more than likely that the two clubs will reach an agreement with everything still seemingly pointing towards a transfer being completed in the coming weeks.
Should Wenger land his man, it will be a welcome boost for the club and its supporters, although they will hope that it is merely the start of things to come this summer.
Nevertheless, with the likes of Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky leaving the club, it is important that Wenger added quality and depth to his squad, and Xhaka certainly fits the bill.
