Luis Enrique has shared a photo on his personal Twitter account which shows the Barcelona coach wearing a Sporting Gijon shirt.
In the shot, the Liga BBVA-winning coach is pulling a broad grin and pulling a peace sign with both hands.
Accompanying the image, Enrique has written: “This is a great day! Sporting Gijon!”
On another day, the shot might have been mistaken for the unveiling of a new signing, although it’s hard to imagine Spanish strugglers Gijon managing to pull off the coup of luring former Spain international Enrique away from Catalonia.
In fact, Asturias native Enrique supported Sporting as a boy, and was merely celebrating their La Liga survival, with the Rojiblancos having confirmed their place among the elite with a 2-0 victory over high-flying Villarreal on the final day of the season.
