Barcelona star Luis Suarez has been included in Uruguay’s squad for the 2016 Copa America, but there is no place for Manchester United’s Guillermo Varela.
The forward Liverpool frontman missed the continental showpiece last year after being suspended following his controversial biting incident with Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.
That misdemeanour saw Suarez slapped with a nine-game suspension and a four-month ban from the game, ensuring that the sinuous attacker played no part in the 2015 tournament.
Uruguay underperformed last time out, and lost their title when they were dumped out by hosts Chile at the quarter-final stage.
However, La Celeste will be hoping for better fortunes this time around, particularly as they can call upon Suarez, who has scored a remarkable 37 league goals for Barca this season.
However, while the attacker will be delighted at having confirmed his return to the continental high table in the United States this summer, United defender Guillermo Varela has been axed from the 23-man selection, having originally made the 35-man long list.
