Roma President James Pallotta has reiterated that the club will not sell their star players this summer, including midfield pair Radja Nainggolan and Miralem Pjanic.
The Giallorossi are in the midst of a race to finish second in Serie A this season along with Napoli, but speculation regarding some of their key players continues to dominate headlines.
Both Nainggolan and Pjanic have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, with incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte looking to the Italian top flight to lay the foundations for his rebuild at the club.
However, it appears as though the current Italy boss will be left disappointed following Pallotta’s latest comments to the media in Italy, as reported by Football Italia.
“I already said that we’re not going to sell Pjanic and Nainggolan,” he told a group of reporters. “Roma-Chievo was a good victory, and an excellent game from a defensive point of view.”
His comments echo what sporting director Walter Sabatini and general director Mauro Baldissoni have already said about the situation, as noted by La Gazzetta dello Sport, with both men insisting that there is no need for the club to sell either player from a financial perspective.
In turn, given how important that Nainggolan and Pjanic have been this season, particularly as part of the revival seen under Luciano Spalletti since January, it would make no sense at all for the capital club to sell either player unless they wanted to leave.
As claimed by Sabatini, neither individual has suggested that they wish to start a new challenge elsewhere, and so it appears as though Chelsea will be left disappointed this summer.
Conte will hope to stamp his mark on his new squad with some new faces, but he may well have to start thinking about alternatives to his preferred targets sooner rather than later.
