Arsenal starlet Reiss Nelson scored a decisive penalty as England’s U-17s side got off the mark in the European Championship with a 2-0 victory over their French counterparts.
The Young Lions lost their opener to Sweden, but responded strongly and cruised past France to stay alive in Group C.
Ipswich Town youngster Ben Morris opened the scoring in the 15th minute to give Steve Cooper’s side control, before Nelson added a second from the penalty spot.

France ended the match with 10 men after goalkeeper Gaetan Poussin was dismissed after bringing down Nelson, who was a genuine menace throughout the encounter.
The win takes England up to third in their group.
Denmark lead the pool with four points from their opening two games, with Sweden and England tied on three points and France—who drew 0-0 with the Danes on opening day—down in fourth.

Nelson, who also scored in the 2-1 defeat by Sweden, currently sits joint third in the competition’s scoring charts behind Yari Otto of Germany and Portugal’s Jose Gomes.
