Liverpool unveiled their new home kit for the 2016-17 season and the early reviews have been very positive.
At Pier Head in Liverpool earlier today, the new Liverpool kit designed by New Balance with the help of “models” Jordan Henderson, Simon Mignolet, Philippe Coutinho and others to reveal it for the world to see.
The Belgian goalkeeper received a green shirt in place of last year’s black one while the rest of the players wore the red.
Henderson was among the first to comment about the new shirts, which restored the traditional red with gold trim, and found the vents perfect this time around.
‘I think it’s nice. There’s a few different things,’ Henderson said.
‘The side vents are meant to help us cool down – but that’s not working right now.
‘We can sense in the stadium and at Melwood that things are going well.
‘Hopefully we can carry that on until the last game…”
The kit also featured some important letters and numbers stitched on: ’96’ to pay tribute to the 96 people killed in the Hillsborough disaster, and ‘There’s no noise like Anfield noise’ in respect for the faithful fans.
This past year’s kit eschewed the gold in favor of white. Perhaps the return of the gold will be a precursor to the return of the silver for Liverpool next season…
