Ex-international offers Arsenal some transfer advice, hints that Barcelona’s Luis Suarez could be ideal

Replace Suarez with Mbappe and the strike force would be even more terrifying

Ex-Arsenal right-back Lauren has offered his former club some transfer advice.

While refusing to directly criticise striker Olivier Giroud, the former Cameroon international has advised Arsene Wenger to try and bring a more ‘charismatic’ forward to the club, suggesting that Barcelona’s Luis Suarez could be the kind of attacker he’d like the club to sign.

It wouldn’t be the first time that the North London heavyweights have been linked to the Uruguay international, although while they may have had a chance of signing him in the past—during his time at Ajax or Liverpool for example—it’s hard to see the Uruguayan swapping Barcelona for a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Nonetheless, he’s the kind of player Lauren would love to see in North London—ideally as an upgrade on Olivier Giroud.

“I’ve watched many Arsenal games, I’ve been to the Emirates Stadium many times. We have to change the style of players in certain positions – centre-back, in the middle – we need more balance between physical and technical players,” the ex-Cameroon international told Goal.

“In the last few years we haven’t done that and it would be something that could improve the team. We need to buy a striker – I’m not saying that Giroud isn’t good enough – he’s done a good job, but sometimes you need a charismatic figure.”

Lauren proceeded to describe the kind of figure that he believes could have a positive influence on the rest of the team.

“Sometimes a charismatic figure in the team can affect the rest of the players. I like South American strikers – Carlos Tevez, Gonzalo Higuain – players that always give full commitment,” the Central African continued.

“Suarez, too. He scores goals, he comes back to defend, he’s got ambition and hunger – the player has to be charismatic so that the players in the dressing room look up to him like he’s an icon.”

It’s easy to see why—beyond his charisma—Suarez would be a fine addition for the Gunners’ squad.

The Barcelona hitman has had an outstanding season in La Liga, and while the Catalan giants may not yet win the Spanish title, the Uruguayan’s 35 goals in 33 outings has gone a long way to establish them as the division’s dominant force.
